In January 2000 Adam Regan and Richard Whittingham launched Leftfoot at The Medicine Bar in Birmingham’s Custard Factory. The night quickly became a haven for fans of leftfield, soulful music, attracting guests like Kruder & Dorfmeister, Keb Darge, Jazzanova, Fabio, Giles Peterson, Carl Craig, and Fila Brazillia playing to regular crowds of 7-8000 people.
In 2003 Leftfoot was voted ‘Best Clubnight’ on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Radio Show and in 2004 it was runner-up to Co-Op.
The list of artists who have performed at Leftfoot has continued to fill the gaps between house, hip-hop, disco, jazz, funk, soul, reggae, drum and bass, techno, afrobeat and Latin.
Over the decade, Lee Scratch Perry, Roots Manuva, Dego (4-Hero), Ty, Mr Scruff, Jazzy Jeff, Rainer Truby, Daddy G (Massive Attack), Kenny Dope Gonzales, King Britt, Quantic Soul Orchestra and Norman Jay have all performed and the night has spread as far afield as Paris, San Francisco, Croatia, Liverpool, London and Nottingham.
Leftfoot now resides in the more intimate surroundings of Birmingham’s Hare & Hounds pub in Kings Heath and the Bull’s Head in Moseley, and it continues to push underground soul music for the people of Birmingham and beyond.
Leftfoot is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a variety of events throughout 2010.
DJ Dick, Sam Redmore and Adam Regan will be DJing between Quantic and his Combo Bárbaro and the Sun Ra Arkestra.
