Brassroots are louder than life. Formed in 2008 by American trombonist Jerome Harper, who considered it his mission to start a brass scene in London, Brassroots have done far more than that. Career highlights of this explosive East London seven-piece have included number ones on Jazz charts in Europe and New Zealand, performances at Scala, Glastonbury and the Grand Finale of Big Brother on Channel 4.
Harper is the band leader, and he’s backed up by Matthew Benson with another trombone, Achilleas Anastasopoulos and Trevor Walker on trumpets, Charly Richardson on sax, David Aird on tuba, and Craig Boorman on drums. They’ve hosted their own brass festivals in the capital and their pulsating sets have had audiences bopping, screaming and jumping to covers of White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army, Radiohead’s Karma Police, and Miserlou from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, amongst others. Expect to see a mix of Michael Jackson, Gnarls Barkley and a whole lot of horns.
