Gary Potter Trio

30 June 2010

The Gary Potter Trio is performing as part of the programme dedicated to Django Reinhardt. Gary Potter is widely regarded as the UK’s leading gypsy jazz guitarist. He is a seasoned virtuoso and personality on the gypsy jazz scene and effortlessly blends country licks into his blazing swinging solos.

His melodic, lyrical and imaginative guitar playing has also earned him acclaim from across the United States, Australia and Europe.

Entirely self taught, Gary started playing the guitar at the age of eleven years old and within a year was appearing professionally in country bands. He was fast tracked towards the Country Music Hall of Fame and looked set to become a Nashville legend.

However, Gary swerved towards a career in jazz guitar when a friend gave him a recording of Django Reinhardt when he was fifteen. Since then he has won numerous awards for jazz music including the National Arts Award for Jazz and a 1994 British Jazz Award.

The Gary Potter Trio previously performed in Moseley Park in the days of the L’Esprit Manouche Festival.
