James Taylor Quartet

30 June 2010

Leading the band with his Hammond playing, James Taylor has consistently remained at the forefront of the jazz funk scene since his debut fifteen years ago.

The James Taylor Quartet’s first album in 1987, ‘Mission Impossible’, laid the foundation for what would become their signature sound: keyboard-driven jazz that is simultaneously funky and sleazy.

In the recording studio James has collaborated with the likes of U2, Manic Street Preachers, The Pogues and Tom Jones but the James Taylor Quartet are best known for their memorable live performances.

Renowned for their versions of film and TV themes, live favourites include the debut single ‘Blow Up’, the mesmerising ‘2001’, and the notorious ‘Starsky & Hutch’.

With 20 albums to their name calling the James Taylor Quartet prolific would be an understatement. Their output touches genres as diverse as jazz, funk, soul, rock, and even rap.

The latest album, ‘A Taste of Cherry’ has taken the band in yet another direction. James will be performing with the full band.
