Originally from Smethwick in Birmingham, Steve Camden AKA Polarbear is one of the top spoken word poets and performers in the country. He fell in love with hip-hop when just 11 years old and first started writing poetry in secret when he was 18. After doing a set of accapella rhymes in Birmingham’s Glee Club he was asked to perform at the 2005 Glastonbury festival. Things have spiralled since then and he has enthralled crowds across the country including on BBC Radio 4’s Bespoken Word. Polarbear admits that all his poems are autobiographical to some extent. Drawing on his surroundings, he aims to make sense our world and connect with people so that they can take a better look at their own lives.
