TG Collective Trio

30 June 2010

The TG (or Trio Gitano) Collective Trio are performing as a part of the programmed dedicated to Django Reinhardt.

In September 2006 The TG Collective was formed by a spirited group of young Birmingham-based musicians. Two of the founding members, guitarists Jamie Fekete and Sam Slater will be performing as a trio with Percy Pursglove on double bass, cajon and trumpet.

Jamie and Sam met under the tuition of Bryan Lester in the Birmingham School’s Guitar Ensemble. Both have a keen interest in flamenco guitar yet Jamie also performs with the klezmer-folk band The Destroyers and Sam is part of Indo-Jazz fusion group Marva, led by tabla player Manver Singh.

Percy was awarded the BBC Big Band Competition Soloist Prize in 2005 and has appeared with the BBC Big Band as well as The Duke Ellington Orchestra at Birdland and the Don Lusher Big Band.

Performing new arrangements of works by Paco de Lucia, Django Reinhardt and Horace Silver alongside self-penned compositions, the group will be releasing a new album later in 2010.

"Last night TG Collective played a warm, very musical and thoroughly enjoyable concert at the Polish Club … their healthy mix of gypsy jazz, flamenco and more contemporary material and great musicianship and dancing from Ana Garcia really enthused a good large audience."
