The Bright Size Gypsies are performing as part of the programme dedicated to Django Reinhardt. Originally formed in Birmingham by musical maverick Simon Harris, this mini-orchestra follow in the innovative footsteps of Django and bridge the gap between Django’s music and the electro swing movement which is exploding today.
Inspired by the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, The Bright Size Gypsies perform an infectious blend of quirky original material, standard gypsy jazz and masterfully re-worked pop classics by the likes of Michael Jackson, The Beatles and Schubert. Their take on ‘Billie Jean’ is becoming something of an urban legend.
Since their formation in 2005 the band have played with a variety of international artists including Natty Bo from Ska Cubano and Tchavolo Schmitt who featured on the gypsy jazz anthem ‘Dark Eyes’. The Bright Size Gypsies have been a regular hit at Shambala Festival, playing to huge audiences at the 2007, 2008 and 2009 festivals.
At the 2009 London Jazz Festival they performed with Giulia Y Los Tellarini, the band behind the title track to Woody Allen’s latest film ‘Vicky Christina Barcelona’.
