At a time when Britpop was defining but boring Britain, Fun Lovin’ Criminals crossed the Atlantic to bring us a new, unique sound. Tracks now considered classic like Scooby Snacks, the Fun Lovin’ Criminal, King of New York, Korean Bodega, and Loco won them thousands of fans – none of whom knew quite where to categorise them in their CD collections. Albums like Come Find Yourself, 100% Columbian and Loco all reached the top ten, and Fun Lovin’ Criminals built a reputation for phenomenal live shows that “exude class and unbridled confidence” (Far Out Magazine) and NME described as ”difficult to not be seduced by”. .
Fun Lovin’ Criminals are a band ideally designed for the Mostly Jazz, Funk and Soul Festival. With a layered sound that combines anthemic stomping drum loops, groovy guitar riffs and an enthralling and hectic array of samples from anywhere and everywhere, Huey Morgan, Brian ‘Fast’ Leiser, and Frank Benbini cover all three of the festival’s main genres plus hip-hop, punk and a lot of rock ‘n’ roll. Fun Lovin’ Criminals are true showmen and they’ll provide the perfect start to an eclectic weekend of fantastic music for people with open minds and shoes that want to move.
Recent years have seen Huey start his own radio programme on BBC Radio 6, The Huey Show, which has attracted a large and loyal fanbase, while Fast and Frank have started a side project, Radio Riddler, also appearing at this year’s festival. Fun Lovin’ Criminals have collaborated with previous Friday headliner Roots Manuva on recent album Classic Fantastic, while performing at some of the country’s most impressive venues, such as Manchester Cathedral. Their career up to this point seems to have been leading them to Moseley Park.
