The Jazzlines Ensembles are made up of talented young jazz musicians from the West Midlands who take part in regular workshops and masterclasses at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, as part of the Jazzlines department’s Talent Development programme.
They learn new tunes by ear, developing their ensemble playing and improvisation skills as well as an understanding of jazz harmony. The sessions are led by experienced jazz musicians and educators including Sara Colman and Percy Pursglove alongside a team of support musicians made up of students and recent graduates from theBirmingham Conservatoire’s jazz degree course.
They have performed in our popular Jazzlines Free Gigs programme on the foyer of Symphony Hall, at mac Birmingham, at the OxJamBrum Takeover Festival and at the Music For Youth Festival.
Open to young musicians of all abilities, from beginners to advanced, Jazzlines Ensemble sessions are free to attend for anyone aged between 11 and 19 from Birmingham and the surrounding areas.
