Neil Rushton (Soulvation)

Neil Rushton returns to Mostly Soul And Jazz two years after hosting the Soulvation Soul Shack parties  at the event.
He will be spinning Classic Soul & Jazz Funk at Sunday’s Night Owl sessions.

Neil’s DJ career began “way back” at Northern Soul venues including Wolverhampton’s
Catacombs and he went on to promote massive All-Dayers at The Ritz in Manchester and Blackpool Mecca putting on USA acts Brass Construction, Players Association, Crown Heights Affair, Al Hudson, Junior Walker and Roy Ayers amongst others. This was sandwiched around a spell as full time staff writer for Britain’s first black music weekly newspaper Black Echoes and setting up the Inferno record  label which released Northern Soul in-demand 45’s.

House Music also became an obsession for Neil and he was a partner in Birmingham based Network Records which introduced Detroit Techno to Europe,and in 1992 became the U.K.’s biggest selling indie singles label.
He later ran the suSU label working with the likes of Masters At Work and Blaze.

Neil is currently involved with the Detroit A-Go-Go which for its’ debut last year took 300 Northern Soul fanatics from the U.K. to see 26 legendary Soul acts in Detroit and has led to a link up with Motown for future events.
As well as publishing specialist Soul Music books he is currently working on arelaunch of both Inferno and Network as well as DJ’ing.
