Shaun Williams is DJing live at Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul Festival 2019 in Moseley Park, Birmingham on Saturday 13th July!
What do you get if you mix Nigerian-Irish parents and post-war working-class Birmingham with heavy metal and reggae scenes? A jazz-fusion, funk, and soul-loving vinyl freak…with a red Afro. Ever since he can remember, Shaun Williams has been entranced and transported by funk-laden horn sections, slapping bass and up-tempo jazz-fusion classics like Chick Corea’s “Fickle Funk”.
His uncompromising tune selection and championing of unknown acts garnered his status as a tastemaker with a loyal and enduring following. A rated jazz dancer, in the seventies he moved behind the decks as resident jazz-funk DJ at Birmingham’s legendary Rum Runner club. He went on to represent Birmingham on the UK’s all-dayer circuit (Rock City, Electric Ballroom, Camden Palais, Locarno/Powerhouse) playing jazz-fusion, funk, electro, and soul alongside contemporaries Paul “Trouble” Anderson, Paul Murphy and Colin Curtis.
With four decades behind the decks, Shaun Williams is back after a hiatus to raise his son. “As a proud Brummie, raised a stone’s throw from Moseley, it gives me such a buzz to be sharing this timeless music with new generations of music lovers.”
