Dean Sunshine Smith has been a frontline DJ sharing the more eclectic and soulful side of dance music for well over a quarter of a century.
Dean was one of the key members of the Garden Festival team based in Croatia. Over the Festival’s colourful history, Dean spent his summers sharing the sunshine sounds for a number of the key events namely – The Garden Festival, Southport Weekender’s Suncebeat, Soundwave, Electric Elephant and Stop Making Sense.
To ask whom Dean has appeared alongside would be like viewing a who’s who of Dance music culture. From legends such as David Mancuso, Frankie knuckles, Francois K through Andrew Weatherall, DJ Harvey, Derrick Carter, Norman Jay, Giles Peterson to the new breed with artists like Eats Everything, Nicolas Jaar, Young Marco etc…
Dean also promotes and programs one of the UK’s finest seasonal events – The Great
Outdoors. Having taken place for the last 4 years each and every spring / summer at the award winning outdoor garden space of The Lord Clifden in Dean’s home city of Birmingham, the event now takes place at bespoke venues across the midlands and beyond. Dean invites some of the Balearic / Adriatic / Soul and Dance scenes finest selectors to share their sounds to an appreciative audience.
Dean is a true visionary – a DJ Journeyman taking in the soulful sounds of the dance music spectrum from past to present. If you want to feel the love and warmth, then Dean is most definitely your man. They don’t call him ‘Sunshine’ for nothing!
