12th – 14th July 2024. Moseley Park, Birmingham.

Jazz FM’s Tony Minvielle is coming to Moseley Park this summer to broadcast his Sunday show from the Festival. He is based in the West Midlands himself and shares his highlights from last year’s festival and who he’s looking forward to seeing in 2023.

The fantastic Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul Festival is now highlighted as one of the summer’s premium musical gatherings and if last year’s event is anything to go by, I cannot disagree.

My fondest memories of MJFS Fest 2022 include walking onto the park and hearing the sweet strains of Lady Blackbird, which is ideal for a summer’s day, and then later the iconic beats, bass lines and lyrics from the seminal duo Konny and Tyler, aka Children Of Zeus, and watching the beautifully diverse and inter-generational crowd rocking, swaying and singing along to the tunes of Robert Nestor Marley courtesy of The Wailers. These moments will forever be mine.

This year is all about new and established icons. New Zealand’s Fat Freddy’s Drop, a major influence on the likes of Jordan Rakei and others, and the legendary Incognito definitely fall into the established icons category whilst the new musical titans of Ezra Collective, led by drum phenom Femi, and Kokoroko, driven by the brass powerhouse of Sheila and Richie, are both on my ‘must see’ list.

Plus, I’m really looking forward to hearing the sweet strains of Andy Platts and Shawn Lee who are Young Gun Silver Fox, a mixture of the Doobies Bros, Steely Dan and some west coast magic. Top this all off with the incredible star in the ascendence that is Mica Millar and top DJ sets from Jamz Supernova, the brilliant Huey Morgan, and the sublime Mafalda then it seems MJFS Fest 2023 is shaping up to be something very, very special.

You can listen to Tony Minvielle on Jazz FM every Sunday from 10am-1pm. Listen on your digital radio, on the free Jazz FM app, online or ask your smart speaker to “play Jazz FM”.
