Lara Jones is an award-winning saxophonist, composer and producer based in London. She is also a member of avant-garde trio J Frisco.

Lara contrasts high energy pulsating electronics & beats with minimal soundscapes using saxophone, synths, live processing, voice and field recordings used to build structures and queer narratives through her work.

She was Jerwood Arts Jazz Encounter Fellow 2020-2022 and recipient of Help Musician’s UK’s Peter Whittingham Jazz Award 2021. She recently featured a groundbreaking guest mix on Mary Anne Hobbs’ BBC 6 Music show and has had her work featured extensively across BBC 6Music and BBC Radio 3. Lara is on the cutting edge of experimental music, both in and out of jazz and is set to release a new EP in 2023.

Performance highlights include London Jazz Festival Kings Place, Cafe Oto, Vortex Jazz Club, and Servant Jazz Quarters. She has supported artists including Courtney Pine, Robocobra Quartet, Novelist, Roller Trio, Portico Quartet, Laura Jurd and Elliot Galvin. She’s collaborated with Archipelago, Shiva Feshareki, Seb Rochford, DJ Shlomo, Cleveland Watkis and performed around Europe at events including Sofar Sounds, London Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, End of the Road Festival, All Points East and Cheltenham Jazz Festival.

Her compositional activity has led to participation in projects Postcards from Eyemouth (Dr. Jacob Thompson-Bell and Dr. Nick Katuszonek) and Peninsular Arts ‘Music of Motions and Presence’ (Dr. Federico Visi and Marco Frattini). She worked on a commission for Theatre company ‘Riptide’ in which she composed and recorded the music for an immersive app experience available on the apple app store ‘Sonder’ and has composed the music for Kahlo Theatre’s Theatre production ‘The Other Side’. Recently she was commissioned by BBC Radio 3 to create newly improvised music with producer Aylu – the music was featured on Late Junction.

Lara has recently released her brand new  EP ‘Flow’ which has been championed on 6music and has completed a UK solo tour of her new material. She is currently receiving mentoring from Gazelle Twin through Serious Take Five talent development programme and set to release a new EP in summer 2023.
