WONDER 45

Branded as “Editors Pick of 2024” by Blues and Soul Magazine, WONDER 45 are a London-based soul ensemble, formed by producer/writer Holley Gray. Collaborating with guitarist Ross Ewart, drummer Chris Nickolls and keys player Steve Pringle, Wonder 45 are committed to writing and recording authentic soul music from their suburban London base.

The band came into their own when they linked up with singer/songwriters Jess Greenfield and Gavin Conder, (who as The Kondoors, were described by Blues Matters’ as a “slick and stylish group oozing with class”) to add the top line vocal melodies that bring the songs to life.

Wonder 45s first single ‘Wonderland’, released on Germany’s Golden Rules label, won the band plenty of plaudits on the underground soul scene, with the band described as being ‘in the throngs of pursuing ecstatic musical heights’ by Blues & Soul Magazine. Their latest single “Cry”, has been playlisted by BBC Radio 2 and has been enjoying radio play over the world.

Continuing in the best traditions of contemporary soul performance from Sharon Jones, Black Pumas, Alabama Shakes, as well as Al Green, Aretha Franklin and in the case of the title track, “like a 21st century Joe Cocker”(Blues and Soul Magazine), Wonder 45s music crafted with tremendous loving care and the utmost attention to detail. The band’s rich, analogue production combined with powerful, soulful performances and heartfelt songwriting, make you feel as though you’re the only one in the room. Leaves you on an emotional high. And if you need something to bring you up, Make It Happen will inspire you with huge horns and vocals.

Expect heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears to run through the playground of sounds that is ‘Wonder 45’. Need to know how authentic funk and soul goes down? Wonder no more.
